Fossil Road
After being planted in November 2025, we look forward to sharing updated photos of this garden during the 2026 growing season!
We kept this sloping South East London garden split across the existing three levels, whilst introducing a gentler journey up the steps. Beds on multiple levels contain plants that creep and trail - which will begin to spill over and cascade by next year. The pergola on the central area will be enveloped in luscious wisteria and jasmine, that will climb up oak timber that silvers and softens with age. We replaced the previous wonky fences with horizontal slatted panels to draw the gaze to eye level, and these will similarly age and be covered in climbers next summer. Reclaimed oak sleepers and Corten steel will take on a beautiful patina, and our clients are looking forward to growing a variety of fruit and vegetables in the raised bed, which is located on the newly paved granite terrace.
With an aspect that is very sunny close to the house and shaded towards the back, the palette of plants needed to be suitable for a range of conditions. The foliage colours complement the rust of the steel, whilst fine textured foliage that offers plenty of movement, and delicate flowers in pastel sunset hues, all work to further soften the edges of the hard landscaping.
